A Tale of Two People

A few years ago I was working in a general psychiatric ward and we had two new nurse started in the ward. After a while these two young women intrigued me. Why? well it was the difference in their lives and the similarities that intrigued me. You see, these two women, Liz and Karen, had such similar lives but such different outcomes!

Let me explain, Liz and Karen had met at university and decided to share a house together while they were training to be nurses. Now they both were making the same money and had the same outgoings. Once they qualified they both managed to get jobs in the ward I was working in and worked there for over a year, continuing to live together and still earning the same amount of money.

The difference? well while Karen prospered and was doing so much with her life and had so many plans, Liz was struggling. Liz was always complaining of not having enough money and not getting the things she wanted. When I left the ward to move to a new hospital Karen was just about to move permanently to Sydney, Australia while Liz was in a panic about how she was going to afford to stay in the house she shared with Karen once Karen had left.

You see, these two young women had one thing different about them and this one thing made such a difference to both of them. This one thing was attitude. While Karen had a very positive attitude, Liz was always so negative, while Karen was always setting goals and making plans, Liz was just staggering through her life from one miserable situation to another!

This is what intrigued me so much about these two people, the effect that their outlook, attitude and actions had on their lives.

Think about your life, are you mainly positive or negative? do you have plans and goals or are you just wandering along waiting for life to happen? Ask yourself, what effect would a positive or increased positive attitude have on your life?

I will guarantee this one thing, if you change your attitude to your life to a positive attitude, your life will get more positive with you! Try it and see, you have nothing to lose and so much to gain.
